World of Warcraft Classic: Season of Discovery is a refreshing way to play vanilla WoW. The seasonal realms shake things up and offer a new experience and a different way to play. Rolled out in phases by Blizzard, each phase of SoD comes with new content, playstyles, raids, itemization, and class quests.
Phase 5, releasing on September 26, 2024, is the new season for SoD and focuses on raid content. Unlike previous phases, the level cap will not increase, staying at level 60. Players can return to a reimagined Blackwing Lair with a 20-40 player raid dungeon, take part in a Crystal Vale raid, and challenge themselves with the Zul’Gurub raid. At the core of SoD Phase 5 is the two reimagined raids from WoW Classic. Blackwing Lair is a reworked 20-40 player raid that is fine-tuned for 20 but capable of hosting 40 players. The dungeon features eight revamped bosses and a scaling system similar to Molten Core’s Heat system. Players can now choose the difficulty for greater rewards, with new raid-wide effects and mechanics based on the five different available dragonflights.
Players can expect increased loot from the new raids, including new Tier 2 Sets. Those who take on the challenge of Blackwing Lair will find additional loot drops and “rewarding discoveries.” Read more about SoD and the new zones, raids, and loot here.

Similar to Blackwing Lair, the revamped Zul’Gurub raid dungeon is fin-tuned for 10 but allows up to 20 players for a slightly easier experience. Players can earn improved rewards for defeating Hakkar while all Zandalari Priests are alive, while beating Zandalari Priests will offer buffs.
During the Edge of Madness Encounter, players can manually choose the boss they fight by selecting the specific tablet when activating the brazier. The reimagined raids offer a fresh look at popular dungeons, with players able to try new strategies, earn new loot, and discover new playstyles.
The rolling out of Phase 5 sees a more simplified Rune discovery system. Blizzard has streamlined rune ability discoveries, making it easier for players to obtain them. Additionally, players can mail bind-on-account tokens obtained from Pix Xizzix in Booty Bay to alt characters to redeem them at a Rune Broker in Stormwind and Orgirmmar.
Blizzard has so far remained silent on class-specific item discoveries, but has revealed the PvP Honor system is getting an update with the new PvP rank cap increasing from 10 to 13. Players entering World of Warcraft Season of Discover Phase 5 on September 26 will find a new World Boss. Prince Thunderaan is available to all players, even if they’re not on the Thuderfury questline. Those who defeat him can earn new loot for classes, specializations, and the legendary Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker weapon.
