Today is Valentine’s Day, a day when many people think about giving flowers and going out for dinner. A day of love that you want to spend with your partner. But you don’t always have to go to a restaurant; you can also enjoy a relaxed Valentine’s Day at home.
If you decide to spend Valentine’s Day at home or if you and your partner can’t be together on the day, I have an idea for you. Besides activities like cooking together, painting together, or other fun things, you can also just play video games together. Here are four games that you can play with your partner to have the perfect Valentine’s Day at home.
It Takes Two
The first game I recommend is It Takes Two. As the name suggests, you need two players, and the game is played in split-screen mode. Only one person needs to buy the game, as the second player can join for free. In the game, you play as a married couple on the verge of divorce. However, due to a magical book created by your daughter, you are turned into tiny dolls and must work together to transform back into humans.
On your journey through the house and its surroundings, you’ll meet various animals and objects you can interact with, each with their own charming stories. Despite its emotional depth, the game is full of action and variety. Completing the game takes about 13 hours, giving you plenty to do on Valentine’s Day at home, or you can spread it out over a few days.
Stardew Valley
Next up is Stardew Valley. In this game, you run a farm together. You inherit the farm from your grandfather, but it is in a terrible state—overgrown with bushes, scattered with branches and rocks. Your first task is to clean it up before diving into the joys of farm life. You can buy different seeds, plant them, and sell the harvested crops to earn money.
But there’s much more to the game. There’s a mine where you can battle enemies and collect minerals to upgrade your tools and automate farm work like watering crops. In the village, you can befriend other residents and learn their stories. There are also seasonal events that add variety to the game. Stardew Valley is a game I highly recommend. You won’t finish it in a single day, but you can start on Valentine’s Day and continue growing your farm over the weeks to come.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Next, we have Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In this game, you arrive on a deserted island and shape it according to your vision. At first, there’s not much—just a few trees, a small tent, and a handful of neighbors. Over time, you build your own paradise and welcome more residents. But everything revolves around Tom Nook, who offers you loans to expand your home. Paying him back takes a long time, but luckily, there are no deadlines or interest, so there’s no pressure—just pure relaxation.
There are many ways to make money in the game. You can fish, catch insects, dig up fossils, and contribute to the museum. With the money you earn, you can expand your house or buy new decorations. There are also daily tasks, special seasonal events, and the option to visit other players’ islands. The heart of the game lies in its charming animal villagers, each with unique personalities. You can build friendships with them over time, or if you dislike a villager, you can annoy them until they leave.
Chained Together
The final game I recommend for a Valentine’s Day at home is Chained Together. This game is quite different—it’s far less relaxing and much more intense. It might push your relationship to its limits or strengthen it forever. In this game, you and your partner are literally chained together and must escape from hell.
To succeed, you need to climb over 3,000 meters, but if you fall, you could drop over 1,000 meters, which can be incredibly frustrating. However, it’s a great test of teamwork and will help you build strong cooperation skills on Valentine’s Day. And who knows? After finishing the game, you might still have some chains left for other uses. No matter how you choose to spend Valentine’s Day—whether dining out or playing games together—the most important thing is spending quality time with that special someone. Enjoy your Valentine’s Day and have fun on your dates!
