Sony Pictures finally reveals the first trailer for the movie adaptation of Until Dawn, along with the story synopsis and the release date.
Discover the movies and series based on video games coming in 2025

Until Dawn is the interactive horror game by Supermassive Games released on August 26, 2015, for PlayStation 4. A first-party PlayStation title and the first major project by Supermassive after mainly working on the Little Big Planet series and the remaster of the first Killzone. Setting Until Dawn in stark contrast to the team’s more family-friendly games.
Delivering an interactive adventure in full horror genre style. Following the mystery of the tragic event around Blackwood Mountain, with a group of friends visiting the exact spot where the twins Hannah and Beth went missing. Featuring numerous choices and consequences during gameplay that lead to various endings with different nuances.
Until Dawn – The Movie Trailer and Release Date
With a reveal on January 16, 2025, PlayStation Studios presents the Until Dawn movie with the first trailer. A trailer that immediately shows us a storyline disconnected from Supermassive Games’ game.
Sony’s certainly ambitious cinematic project comes after recent failures such as the Uncharted movie. Entrusting the project to director David F. Sandberg, known primarily for Annabelle: Creation and Lights Out in the horror genre. The theatrical release is set for April 25, 2025.
Until Dawn: The Movie – The Plot and Cast
As we can see from the trailer, we have a completely different story from the game. With a new setting not taking place on Blackwood Mountain, and a brand-new group of protagonists searching for a missing sister of one of the group. They soon discover the disappearance of numerous people and realize they’re trapped in a loop. Where every death brings them closer to uncovering the truth.
An interesting choice for the loop factor, though not very original as it’s been used before. Featuring a cast of somewhat familiar actors, some of whom have appeared in B-horror movies.
- Belmont Cameli: as Abel
- Michael Cimino: as Max
- Ella Rubin: as Clover
- Odessa A’zion: as Nina
- Maia Mitchell: as Melanie (Clover’s missing sister)
- Peter Stormare: as Hill
- Ji-young Yoo: as Megan
Until Dawn: Fan Criticism and Initial Reception
With an entirely original and disconnected storyline, the idea is to create a narrative that expands the Until Dawn universe. However, the initial reception from fans isn’t the most positive. The main criticism is that this adaptation doesn’t seem connected to the game or the Wendigo lore. With a new location, new monsters in addition to the Wendigos, a completely new cast, the presence of Dr. Hill in a different role, etc.
That said, many, although disappointed, are certainly curious to see what this adaptation entails. Especially with rumors of Until Dawn 2 in development, which could somehow connect to the movie or justify some of the choices. We’ll have to wait until April 25 to find out how this Until Dawn movie experience unfolds.
