Hela is the debut title from Windup Games. A development team formed by veterans from Coldwood Interactive, the studio behind the two Unravel games. Notable members include Martin Sahlin (Creative Director) and Jakob Marklund (Technical Director).
As a little mouse, you’ll explore a world inspired by Scandinavian landscapes. Searching for a way to save the good witch who has fallen ill, as you’ll journey through a magical world solo or in co-op. With exploration, puzzles, and a dynamic game world.
Announced on 15 November 2024, the Windup Games team has finally released the new Hela trailer. This coincides with the The Mix Fall Showcase 2024, celebrating the 10th Anniversary of The Mix. The event showcased numerous indie games and small studio titles on 21 November 2024.
The new trailer reveals the game world and mechanics. Featuring a magic backpack that interacts with the game’s physics for solving puzzles. You can also explore vertically using a grappling hook and gliding mechanics.
The magical world of Hela allows us to explore a vast game world through the eyes of a mouse. Key features include:
A magical game world inspired by Scandinavia, filled with forests, lakes, and mountains. Dynamic environments which will evolve throughout the adventure.
Your magic backpack lets you interact with objects using realistic physics, playing a key role in solving puzzles and challenges.
Hela allows players to enjoy co-op play, both online and locally. Puzzle-solving includes enhanced physics-based interactions.
The Windup Games team and publisher Knights Peak have yet to announce a release date for Hela. Developed by a team of about 30 members (as per their LinkedIn page) and founded in 2022.
Confirmed platforms include PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Notably, the game will only launch on next-gen consoles. Although from what we’ve seen so far, a release in 2025 isn’t far fetched. Stay tuned for more official updates.
