CD Projekt Red reveals in its latest earnings presentation that The Witcher 4 will not make its initial release window. Unfortunately, for fans, it means they shouldn’t expect Witcher 4 before 2027 or 2028, possibly until the next generation of consoles.

Tough News For Witcher 4 fans: Release Date Pushed Back Again

Initially expected to launch by December 31, 2026, The Witcher 4 will now be released later than thought after CD Projekt Red confirmed during its latest earnings report that  it will not launch “within the time frame of the first target for the incentive program.”

CD Projekt Red has not provided a specific release date, and details about the game remain limited. However, we know that this installment will begin a new saga, and Ciri will serve as the main protagonist.

Why The Witcher 4 Is Delayed

While CD Projekt Red didn’t reveal details about why it will launch later than 2026 in its earnings presentation, the studio is transitioning to Unreal Engine 5 for the first time, which could cause a delay.

The developer announced in 2024 with a cinematic reveal trailer that the game was in “full production,” with 1,000 developers from Witcher 3 reportedly still at the company. CDPR has also previously stated they are focusing on quality and polish after the poor launch of Cyberpunk 2077.

What This Means for Fans and the Franchise

The latest development means we won’t see Witcher 4 before 2027, and we may not see it until 2028. With its release at least two years away, CDPR could be looking to launch it with the next generation of consoles. We already know Microsoft expects to release its next Xbox in 2027 or 2028 at the latest.

The Witcher franchise is one of gaming’s most celebrated RPG series, so expectations are high. With CDPR working closely with NVIDIA, hopefully, a delay means a smooth launch across all platforms.

When to Expect More Updates

Since its reveal in 2024, CDPR has mainly kept updates to its investor presentations, and that’s likely to continue. For fans, we may get more information later this year. If we do, you can expect it at a major gaming event such as Summer Game Fest or The Game Awards 2025.

With the game in full production, there is hope for a teaser or dev diary in late 2025, but I wouldn’t expect a gameplay reveal.

Conclusion

CD Projekt Red has told investors during an earnings report that The Witcher 4 will not launch by December 31, 2026. Although disappointed, a later release could suggest a target to release it for the next generation consoles. Do you have an opinion on the RPG’s delay? Share your thoughts in the comments.
