Starcraft 2 (also known as SC2) is probably the most famous franchise for strategy games, and also probably the most popular in the competitive scene. Starcraft 2 is a futuristic RTS (Real Time Strategy) game with a strong solo campaign as well as a multiplayer ladder and dedicated community.
This game is the second instance in the franchise created by blizzard the 31 March 1998 with the original Starcraft. The original has been played for many years and was considered the reference in terms of strategy games, it is still very popular in Korea. 12 years later, Blizzard released Starcraft 2 the 27 July 2010. This last chapter was actually released in three different parts so each of the three races (Terrans, Zergs, Protoss) of the games got their own full campaign, so the whole story could be told in detail.

What do the top 15 games like Starcraft 2 have in common?
Most games that are similar to Starcraft 2 are RTS or turn by turn games. Sometimes they are futuristics like XCOM, sometimes they are less combat oriented, and more leaning toward management like Civilization games, but not many are as popular as Starcraft 2, but they definitely combine the management and strategy aspect of the Starcraft reference. Some offer welcomed variants of the genre featuring unique universes like Dungeon Keeper, Total War Warhammer or Warhammer 40k. Command and Conquer titles should be on this list and Civilization, Total War are not RTS/Real Time Strategy but TBS/Turn Based Strategy.
I don’t think that Sid Meier’s Civilization series are very similar in gameplay to StarCraft 2, since they are Turn-Based Strategy, maybe warcraft series are more similar.
Cool list. Civilization Beyond Earth and his expansion also very similar to Starcraft and they are great games imo.
