The Outer Worlds 2 is the highly anticipated sequel from Obsidian Entertainment, taking us to a new solar system, Arcadia. Offering a first-person RPG with open-world exploration and plenty of characters to meet. Accompanied by numerous choices and actions to make during your adventures.
The freedom to make choices and take actions was one of the strongest aspects of the first The Outer Worlds. And this sequel promises improvements in all areas, addressing both the criticized and praised aspects of the original game.
The Outer Worlds 2: Gameplay Trailer at The Game Awards 2024
At The Game Awards 2024, we finally got the new trailer for the much-anticipated The Outer Worlds 2 (OW 2). The gameplay trailer immediately stands out with its humorous tone, even self-referentially joking with “Fallout 3: part 2.”
OW 2 promises “More Action, More Arms, More Graphics.” It features a game world twice as large as Halcyon, with more exciting gameplay—a weak point in the first game. On the graphics side, Obsidian relies on Unreal Engine 5.
The Outer Worlds 2: What’s New in the Series
Obsidian Entertainment presents OW 2 as an improved version of the first game, with three years of development since its initial reveal at E3 2021. It includes:
The Arcadia Colony
We’ll play in the new Arcadia Colony, with a faction war and a confrontation with the Protectorate. This political element is similar to the first game, but the world is twice as large and visually enhanced by Unreal Engine 5.
Deeply Improved Combat
One of the most criticized aspects of the first chapter is improved significantly in OW 2, offering smoother action while maintaining role-playing elements like skills, choice freedom, and companions to recruit during your adventure.
The Outer Worlds 2 – Release Date, Platforms, and Availability
With the announcement at The Game Awards 2024, Xbox confirmed that The Outer Worlds 2 will release in 2025. The exact date is still unknown, but surprisingly, Obsidian’s title will also come to PlayStation 5. So, it’s not the first-party exclusive many initially expected.
The new entry will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (including Steam) at launch. Microsoft has also confirmed that it will also be available on Game Pass from day one.
