After a period of Beta testing since 2023 and various temporary access periods through demos and paid Early Access packs. Stormgate is a real-time strategy game created by the Frost Giant Studios team, formed in 2020 by former Blizzard members. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, offering the classic formula of base building, resource gathering, troop creation, and unlocking upgrades. In a game world where Earth, led by the Vanguard, is at the center of a dual invasion by two alien races: the Infernal Hosti demons and the Celestial Armada angels. Thus offering three completely different factions at the heart of the conflict and gameplay, utilizing Unreal Engine 5. Gameplay has been immediately envisioned through the lens of competitive multiplayer as a new entry in esports.
Stormgate was born from the minds of Tim Morten and Tim Campbell, who were behind the expansions of StarCraft II and Warcraft III at Blizzard. They founded the Frost Giant Studios team in 2020 to create a new RTS. They secured numerous funds and then launched a Kickstarter campaign in 2023, which concluded with great success in early 2024. A F2P RTS game that will continue to rely on microtransactions and future DLCs. The community response has been lukewarm, not bad, but citing the main criticisms overall the lack of polish and disappointment with the chosen dlc formula. However, with a Roadmap covering what the team will bring for 2024 and 2025, we’ll see if Stormgate can establish itself as a new RTS in the competitive scene.
