With the start of Steam Next Fest next Monday, comes the news of a playable demo of Guns Undarkness, the tactical RPG by Shoji Meguro!
Find out how to play the Open Beta of FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves!

Guns Undarkness is a turn-based tactical RPG published by Kodansha and developed by MegaRock. It’s the work of none other than Shoji Meguro, a name certainly familiar to fans of Atlus games. After all, he’s the renowned composer behind the soundtracks of the Persona series, Shin Megami Tensei, and the recent Metaphor: ReFantazio.
This is a rather unique case, given Shoji Meguro’s musical background. He officially left Atlus in 2021 but continues as a freelance collaborator on the music for Metaphor. He announced the title in 2021, followed by a Kickstarter campaign in 2022, which quickly reached its funding goal.
Guns Undarkness: Demo available at Steam Next Fest
After more than 2 years since the last major news, Shoji Meguro returns with a big announcement. He revealed that the demo of Guns Undarkness, the turn-based tactical RPG in the style of Shin Megami Tensei, will be available during Steam Next Fest starting on 25th February 2025.
Great news for fans, as they’ll finally get to try the project. The demo will be a Trial version but open for everyone, unlike the early demos which were initially reserved for Kickstarter backers. The Early Access version is also set to arrive in Spring 2025.

It’s a demo version that you can play for about 20 minutes, and I plan to release an Early Access version this spring, although the full version is still a ways off. pic.twitter.com/YtW4BWGBDq
Guns Undarkness: What the game offers
Shoji Meguro doesn’t hide his influences in Guns Undarkness. With Shin Megami Tensei being one of the main inspirations, taking us to a post-apocalyptic world in 2045. We’ll play as a new member of the Alpha Team of a Private Military Company (PMC).
The gameplay is intriguing, borrowing mechanics from Persona, like relationship systems with various boosts. The combat blends classic JRPG elements with a tactical touch in the style of X-Com, and the stealth gameplay reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid. Expect surprise attacks, cover systems, and the use of skills for buffs and debuffs.
In conclusion
A game that has certainly caught many people’s attention, with contributions from artist Ilya Kuvshinov and rapper Kenji Nakamura (Lotus Juice). It’s Shoji Meguro’s first big project with the potential to be an exciting game, complete with a stirring soundtrack. Don’t miss the demo of Guns Undarkness on 25th February 2025!
