Starfield 2: Ex-Bethesda Designer Predicts a Game-Changer!

An ex-Bethesda developer has sparked excitement amongst gamers by predicting that Starfield 2 will exceed expectations and redefine gaming. Bethesda’s Starfield has had a mixed reception since its release in September 2023, but ex-dev Bruce Nesmith expects big things for its sequel.

Starfield is Bethesda’s first new IP in 30 years and many expected a ground-breaking experience from the studio that gave us award-winning RPGs like Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. With a mixed user score on Metacritic, it would be fair to say Starfield has had an interesting first year since its release in 2023, but everyone is now looking towards a sequel, including ex-Bethesda dev Bruce Nesmith.

In an interview with VideoGamer, Nesmith says Starfield has all the foundations in place and that he expects Bethesda to listen to fans and “put in a lot of new stuff and fix a lot of those problems” that players had. The former Bethesda designer suggests Starfield 2 could expand its universe, and fans are rightly excited.

What Could Make Starfield 2 a “Game-Changer”?

Starfield 2 is in a unique position, one that Nesmith acknowledges. With decades of experience and high-quality RPGs under their belt, Bethesda do not need to work from the ground up when working on Starfield. Nesmith, who left Bethesda in 2021, told VideoGamer “When we built Skyrim, we had the tremendous advantage of Oblivion, which had the tremendous advantage of Morrowind. All that stuff was there for us, all we had to do was continue to improve and add new stuff in.”

Taking that knowledge, Bethesda could create an incredible sequel, one befitting the studio and one fans will love. Nesmith explained how sequels often benefit from mistakes of the first game. “If you look at the first Dragon Age, the first Assassin’s Creed, the first game in a lot of IPs, they tend to show off flashes of brilliance amid a lot of other things that don’t quite catch everybody’s eye.”

Nesmith reminds everyone that it can take a sequel or two to “really enrich everything.” We recently saw how Bethesda is looking to expand the Starfield universe ahead of a sequel with the recent release of the Shattered Space DLC. There is also a second expansion currently in development, which may add new features and expand the story further.

The Path Ahead: When to Expect Starfield 2

Bethesda is working on The Elder Scrolls 6, with the last game in the series being Skyrim in 2011. Fallout 3 came in 2008, whereas Fallout 4 launched in 2015, which shows the studio does not rush to follow up with sequels. There is no insight into when Starfield 2 could come, but the good news is that Bethesda is working on a second expansion.

It may be a decade before we see Starfield 2, but as we’ve seen in the past with their other IPs, Bethesda will release it when they feel it’s time to. Until then, players can expect further content for Starfield and the much-anticipated The Elder Scrolls 6.
