A recent mod for Stardew Valley, titled The Baldur’s Village, was released on March 8, 2025. It has since been the subject of a DMCA takedown from Wizards of the Coast, who says it was accidental.
The mod, available to download from Nexus Mods, is currently unavailable to download at the time of writing, with its page on the site stating: “This mod is under moderation review (since 29 Mar 2025, 10:03AM).”
What Was the Stardew Valley BG3 Mod?
The Baldur’s Village is a mod for Stardew Valley, which adds six new locations, new shops, special items, dynamic events, a fully developed personal storyline, and characters from Baldur’s Gate 3 to the game.
Developed over the course of a year, the mod has gained immense popularity. Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke has described it as “amazing work” since its launch on Nexus Mods.
The DMCA and WotC’s Statement
It seemed that the mod might have been permanently shut down after WotC issued a DMCA takedown on March 8. However, in a surprising and positive turn of events, the company announced that it was a mistake and is now “in the process of fixing” the error.
Fans hope the DMCA will be lifted soon, so that they can once again start to download it. The mod has already been viewed by 80,000 people on Nexus Mods, with over 11,000 downloads.
What This Means for Modders
Modding is always a tricky business, with modders always having to be cautious when using popular IPs. WotC will set a precedent if they reverse the DMCA takedown of The Baldur’s Village mod for Stardew Valley.
Risk will remain going forward, but if more companies approach fan-made content, such as Wizards of the Coast and Larian Studios, our games will benefit long into the future.
Conclusion
The Baldur’s Gate 3 mod for Stardew Valley has been DMCA’d by Wizards of the Coast. The company is working on removing the DMCA so players can start downloading it again. Do you think WotC is doing the right thing? Let us know in the comments.
