Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is the new installment in the popular Rune Factory series. A spin-off game series from Story of Seasons (formerly Harvest Moon) by Marvelous. It originated as a fantasy twist on the life and farming sim genre, adding dungeon crawling and action elements to the experience.
The series features a compelling storyline, engaging most of the characters. Each character has their own quests and additional interactions, including building relationships. With this new entry announced back in 2023 and now confirmed for launch in 2025.
Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma – Announcement and Release Date
On 16th January 2025, Marvelous officially announced the release date for Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma. Scheduled for 30th May 2025, on PC and Nintendo Switch. This new spin-off entry offers a Japanese-inspired experience set in the new Azuma region.
With this game taking a further action-oriented approach for the series. Guardians of Azuma was announced first in 2023, and is now set for a global launch this year. As unveiled by the latest trailer showing us the main features.
Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma: What’s New in This Experience
As mentioned, Guardians of Azuma is a new spin-off of Rune Factory, similar to Frontier and Tides of Destiny. Taking us to a new game region and introduces a playstyle diverging from the recent Rune Factory 5. As the developer calls a “reimagined Rune Factory” offers:
Game World
A vibrant world set in the colorful Azuma region, inspired by Asian—more specifically Japanese—culture, as seen in the trailers, character names, and OST.
Village Building
We’ll have a full City Builder feature as we’ll be able to create our own village. Assigning jobs to residents, and increase available resources, unlock new upgrades and more. But we’ll also need to keep and manage our budget in mind as well.
Adventure
Explore a lively world full of missions and dangers. Guardians of Azuma takes a more action-oriented approach, featuring mounts and an action JRPG combat system with a party. Complete with dashes, close-range, and ranged attacks, being able to switch styles on the fly.
Romantic Aspect
A staple of life sims, and as always one of the main feature in the Rune Factory series. Being able to build friendships and create lasting relationships with a total of 16 candidates. Altough 2 of them (Pilika and Cuilang) are available exclusively via the Season of Love DLC.
In Conclusion: Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma
Guardians of Azuma introduces a fresh experience for the Rune Factory series. With a more action-focused approach and graphics akin to games like Genshin Impact. Announced in early 2023 as Project Dragon, this chapter is a spin-off and not the sixth main title in the RF series.
