Robocop: Streets of Anarchy VR Game Canceled Over Licensing Issues

Robocop: Streets of Anarchy, intended for VR arcades, was revealed a couple of weeks ago by developer Coffee Moth Games. However, it has since come to light that Amazon MGM, the official license holder, did not grant permission for the use of the license. As a result, both the developer’s website and the game’s website have been taken offline.

The VR title was slated for release in late 2025, with the developer initially planning a release for the Meta Quest 3 and PC VR.

Why Was Robocop: Streets of Anarchy Canceled?

In a whirlwind couple of weeks for Coffee Moth Games and Robocop fans, Robocop: Streets of Anarchy was announced for PC VR and the Meta Quest 3 before the developer later clarified it was for VR arcades only. But now, it seems the game will never happen after it was recently revealed that the developer doesn’t have the official license for a Robocop game.

In a statement to UploadVR, a representative for license holder Amazon MGM stated that “RoboCop isn’t officially licensed with that studio.” Since Amazon contacted Coffee Moth Games, the developer’s site has been placed behind a password, with no information on how far into development they were on the game.

What Fans Missed Out On

With Robocop: Streets of Anarchy possibly shut down for good, the fans of the hit sci-fi franchise will miss out on an original title designed for virtual reality.

When announcing the game, Coffee Moth Games described the title as an “original Narrative interwoven with bombastic action” with “specialized VR game development for controls, optimization, and visual fidelity.”

What’s Next for Robocop in Gaming?

It’s not all doom and gloom for Robocop fans, as there’s still the upcoming Rogue City spinoff, Robocop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business, due out in Q3 2025.

It’s unclear if Robocop: Streets of Anarchy will eventually get the green light after its license dispute or if there will be a chance to enter Old Detroit in the long term.

Conclusion

Robocop: Streets of Anarchy may be in jeopardy, as developer Coffee Moth Games does not hold the license for Robocop, which is owned by Amazon MGM. What do you think about the game and its predicament? Share your thoughts in the comments.
