Few studios put as much work into their games as Rockstar Games, but this detail might surprise even hardcore fans of Red Dead Redemption 2.

It is widely known that Rockstar’s open game worlds offer more details than other maps. But the developers are so obsessed with their digital environments and characters that many things are only discovered very late and by chance. Want an example? John Marston and Arthur Morgan have completely different facial animations when shooting in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Attention to detail is what distinguishes real blockbusters

Reddit user Vejaiy posted a picture in which Marston and Morgan can be seen taking aim with a rifle. While Arthur keeps both eyes open, John closes one eye. Anyone who knows a bit about guns knows that these are two ways of aiming.

But for Rockstar to come up with the idea of incorporating them into the game is quite impressive — especially since we rarely look at the characters from the front when we target an enemy or an animal.

Do the animations have a meaning?

Well, at least none that would be immediately obvious. Both men are experienced shooters. Presumably this is to make the difference between the two figures clear once again.

Basically, with one target it is better to keep one eye closed in order to focus the gaze. With several targets, it is best to keep your eyes open to keep everything in view.

One title that can rival Red Dead Redemption 2 in terms of attention to detail is The Last of Us Part 2. Naughty Dog has packed so many Easter Eggs and special features into the game that they are only discovered bit by bit. Hardly anyone knew, for example, that Ellie can catch bullets in the air, provided she has good timing. The developers even gave the protagonist fingerprints. A detail that we can’t even see with the naked eye.
