A decade after its release, Obsidian Entertainment has announced Pillars of Eternity is to receive a turn-based combat mode. The new feature will launch later this year, with a playtest expected to launch in the coming months.
Originally launched in 2015, Pillars of Eternity serves as a love letter to classic titles like Baldur’s Gate, and now Obsidian has announced plans to release a turn-based combat feature.
Speaking to players in a blog post, Obsidian revealed the “special” feature will offer an all-new way to explore the game and open up exciting new challenges. Obsidian hopes to launch the mode in late 2025, with testing opening up in the near future.

The upcoming turn-based system will give players a new way to play through the RPG’s epic campaign, opening up new strategic challenges and aligning the game with others in the genre, like Baldur’s Gate 3.
