Palworld’s Major Sakurajima Update: New Island, Pals, and Features

Well, the wait is finally over, and the Pocketpair team has finally released the major new update for Palworld, Sakurajima. With a teaser already shown at the end of April and a new trailer on 8th June, Sakurajima has finally arrived on Palworld, bringing not only new game areas but also many new Pals and game mechanics.

Palworld: Sakurajima – the new free major update

Initially revealed with a teaser at the ID@Xbox showcase on April 29th, Pocketpair stepped forward again on 8th June 2024 during the Summer Game Fest, finally showing off the lush island of Sakurajima, with new Pals, dedicated servers on Xbox, increased level cap, new Subspecies category, the new Raid Boss, and the Arena. Sakurajima finally arrived on 27th June 2024 with update v0.3.1, reaching a peak of well over 100,000 players in the last 24 hours to try the new content.

The update primarily features the new game area, the island of Sakurajima, with a new game story involving the faction The Moonflowers that controls the island. Our objective will be to free it from their presence, using the new 24 Pals that have been added, as well as the subspecies variants of already seen Pals. We also have the Rayne Syndicate’s Oil Rig Fortress, which hides the precious Crude Oil essential for new high-level equipment and spheres.

Palworld – PvP available with the Arena

With Sakurajima comes a new level cap raised to level 55, many new weapons and equipment to accompany it all. All these new introductions and optimizations will now be more useful than ever with the introduction of one of the most requested features: PvP. Available with the new Arena that we will find south of the Desert Biome, with a new island where we will find the Arena and a Fast Travel Point.

Obviously, as a Multiplayer mode, we will need to enable Multiplayer in the game options, and by interacting with the door, we will be grouped for a match. Matchmaking currently works only randomly, so we won’t be able to challenge our friends directly, and it will take place as a 4v4 format. We will have at our disposal 1 main Pal that we can ride and command directly, and 2 Pals that will use Skills independently. The winner will be the one who defeats the opposing Tamer first or all 3 of the opponent’s Pals, and at the end of the match, the consumables used will be restored. In short, a major update for everyone, which also opens the door for a new experience with strategies and the search for the best items to showcase in PvP, which will surely receive additional new modes and balances in the future.
