Once Human, the new MMO survival game by NetEase has been officially released on 8th July 2024, after a Closed Beta Testing period that started back in February 2023, and an Open Beta held in June 2024 during the Steam Next Fest. It has attracted many players thanks to its solid visuals and gameplay, currently securing a strong 15th place in the current Steam most played rankings this new Free to Play game.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has been struck by the calamity known as Stardust, which has polluted the earth and transformed the planet. In a game world full of abnormal-looking creatures, the player finds themselves as a Beyonder 30 years after the events. Beyonders are humans with extraordinary powers capable of cleaning the earth from Stardust contaminations and potentially saving the planet. Upon awakening, we will encounter some hostile factions, each with their own objectives, that will put us to the test. Fortunately, we also have the Mayfly on our side, a rebel force group created by Beyonders and former members of Rosetta.
Once Human offers an open-world third-person game with a strong survival component. At the start of the game, we can choose between PvP or PvE servers, but we cannot share progress between the two servers. The PvP component will play an important role not only during exploration, where players can face each other on the server in addition to enemy factions, but it will also be part of certain future events. PvE servers will still have a PvP component if both players, or groups of players, acquire the Chaos State. This status can be obtained by collecting Echo Stones, the main loot of the game, which can only be purified at your base, leading to conflicts that will mainly occur near your base or another player’s base.
Once Human, the new F2P by NetEase, has fairly accessible system requirements despite its pleasant graphics, requiring:

Although for a solid experience with stable 60fps, the team recommends an RTX 3060 or RX 6650XT accompanied by an i5 12400F or equivalent. For now, the title is only available on PC and mobile devices on Android and iOS. The PC version is available on both Steam and directly from the NetEase launcher, with no console version currently available, though it might not be entirely out of the question if the game receives good feedback in the coming months.
One important thing to keep in mind is NetEase’s choice of Soft Wipe servers. Every 6 weeks (coinciding with the Season period), the game servers will be reset. With the reset, apart from some cosmetics and other paid items, every in-game item and building will be reset. This aspect will help balance the PvP component, preventing certain clans from dominating new players, but it will negatively affect the PvE server experience. We will need to continue monitoring the situation closely, hoping for improvements in the content and experience of Once Human.
