From the Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2024, many new announcements and information arrived, including a Little Nightmares III. The third installment of the series, now developed by Supermassive Games, was showcased with a new trailer along with some insights from the team.
With a trailer titled “Friendship”, Little Nightmares III was showcased again at Gamescom, following its announcement in 2023. The trailer revealed new clips of the terrifying and beloved puzzle horror series from Bandai. It also displayed new areas of Necropolis, highlighting the co-op feature at the core of the Little Nightmares III experience. The game is confirmed for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch, with a release date planned for 2025, following a delay announced back in May 2024.
As Gamescom opened to the general public, the team at Supermassive Games has decided to also release an overview of the demo available at the event. An overview for those at home narrated by producer Coralie Feniello. Showing a revised version of last year’s Pre-Alpha, confirming the abilities of the duo Low and Alone, and the emphasis on cooperation. An online and local Co-op, but also in single-player mode with the AI controlling the other character. We also saw a new scene that features Necropolis at night, where players must sneak in the shadows to avoid the gaze of Monster Baby, who seems to be unable to sleep.
Fan expectations are very high, especially with Supermassive Games taking over from Tarsier Games for the development of Bandai’s IP. Notably, Tarsier Games is also bringing a new co-op horror experience with their game REANIMAL, which was also showcased during the ONL at Gamescom 2024. While the release date is not yet confirmed, we certainly have two very similar games that will undoubtedly be compared, especially if both are released in 2025. All we can do now is watch and wait for more news regarding Little Nightmares III, and perhaps hope that the Gamescom demo will be released on all platforms.
