Wasteland 2 is a CRPG with a post-apocalytic theme, and is the first official sequel to the 1988 Wasteland. The game is set in a fictional alternate history timeline in the Southwestern United States where a nuclear holocaust took place in the year 1988 – 15 years after the events in Wasteland. The main characters in this game are called “Desert Rangers”, a company of U.S. Army Engineers who were present during the nuclear holocaust, and are one of the most influential factionsin the Wasteland . - Pistol Packing Priests – This faction, as a fanatical religious group, believes that the Apocalypse should have cleansed humanity from the globe. They seek to correct this with superior firepower.
- Rail Nomads – A large group of wastelanders who makes use of an old freight train to travel through the devastated city of Nevada.
- Rail Thieves
- Red Skorpion Militia – A faction whose members have the organization’s emblems tattoed on their body.
- Robinsons – This faction is based on American motivational speakers such as Dale Carnegie and Tony Robbinsons.
- Wrecking Crew – Just humans you can encounter in the Wasteland covered in junk and use scrap yard armor and tool shed weapons.
Wasteland 2 also offers players with a number of skills they can use throughout the game and are grouped into Combat Skills (for weapons such as Assault Rifles and Handguns, and also for physical combat such as Brawling), Knowledge Skills (such as Computer Science, Alarm Disarming, and Surgery), and General Skills (such as Leadership, Hard Ass, and Animal Whisperer among others).
