Well, here we are, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess was released on 19th July 2024. We are talking about the new title from Capcom announced during the Xbox Games Showcase in 2023, and more recently during Capcom Next Summer with a showcase and demo.
A third-person action game that combines strategic elements with tower defense mechanics, all with a decidedly Japanese atmosphere and a setting drawn from Japanese folklore, where even the music plays an important role. Set on Mt. Kafuku, infested with corruption, we will play as Soh in gameplay divided into two main phases. During the Day, we will purify villages and prepare for the Night, during which we must defend the Maiden Yoshiro from the Seethe, as she is the only one capable of purifying the corruption afflicting the Mountain.
A gameplay certainly traditional but combined with typically folkloric elements, making it very reminiscent of Okami. In fact, the game was conceived as a spiritual successor to Capcom’s classic, even offering a collaboration between the two games. By completing challenges within the Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess demo, it will be possible to unlock some items reminiscent of Okami.
The fact that Kunitsu-Gami was presented in 2023 during the Xbox Game Showcase certainly raised attention regarding a possible collaboration with Microsoft to bring the game to Xbox Game Pass. And just a few days ago, Xbox confirmed the new lineup of games arriving on Game Pass for the second half of July, including Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, alongside Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn and Dungeons of Hinterberg released on 18 July.
