A few days ago, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was released as an exciting sequel to the successful medieval RPG. The game places great emphasis on realism, historical accuracy, and the freedom you have.

In the game, you take on the role of Henry, a former blacksmith who is now a knight in 15th-century Bohemian society. Throughout the game, you will have to make many decisions that impact the story. The game was released on February 4th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Story & Setting of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 continues the story of Henry of Skalitz seamlessly, so playing the first game is definitely worthwhile, though not absolutely necessary. After the events of the first game, Henry is still on his path of revenge and survival. He is the son of a blacksmith and has, of course, learned the trade. But now, he is a squire serving Sir Hans Capon.

However, his journey now takes him beyond his home province with the goal of hunting down Sir Markvart von Aulitz. He was the knight who led the attack on his hometown, Silver Skalitz, and is therefore responsible for the death of his parents. Additionally, he is also after Sir Istvan Toth, a corrupt nobleman who possesses his father’s sword.
Throughout the game, you will often be faced with moral decisions, and there is rarely a clear right or wrong choice. These choices influence the entire game, determining how the story of Henry unfolds. So, think carefully before making a decision. Gameplay & Mechanics of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
When discussing gameplay, we should start with the massive open world. The large, dynamic world is free to explore, featuring bustling cities and villages, as well as vast natural landscapes. NPCs follow realistic daily routines and react to your behavior. In this world, you can hunt, trade, and gather essential survival resources. You must also carefully plan longer journeys, as you need to sleep and eat. Additionally, prices in the game fluctuate based on supply and demand.

The melee combat system has been improved compared to its predecessor. The game still features the five-directional system for attacking and blocking. Of course, there are new weapons with unique attack patterns. The stamina system in combat has also been adjusted, making fights even more realistic. Additionally, the AI of enemies has been enhanced, allowing them to act more intelligently and employ tactics like encirclement.
In this game, there are no level-based skill points like in other RPGs. Instead, your abilities improve through use and practice. For example, your archery or swordsmanship skills only increase when you actually fight with a bow or sword, and the same applies to all other skills in the game. Even dialogues can change depending on what equipment you wear or which skills you have mastered.

You have the freedom to do almost anything in the game. That includes breaking the law, but now it’s even riskier and more realistic. Guards react more aggressively to crimes, and you may face fines or imprisonment. Crimes spread quickly by word of mouth, affecting your reputation, which influences how NPCs interact with you. Additionally, sneaking and using disguises to remain undetected have been even better integrated into the gameplay.
Graphics & Audio
Visually, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a stunning masterpiece. The environment is richly detailed and perfectly captures the nature and towns of the medieval period. The lighting and weather effects further enhance the immersive atmosphere. Realistic character models also play a crucial role in bringing this world to life. Compared to the previous game, several improvements have been made, especially in terms of liveliness and authenticity.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 also excels in audio design. The ambient sounds and dialogues are highly authentic, reflecting the historical accuracy of the language from that era. The medieval-inspired soundtrack fits perfectly, further enhancing the atmosphere and making you feel truly immersed in the 15th century.
Final Verdict on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 impresses with a captivating story, exciting gameplay mechanics, and a high level of realism. The depiction of medieval Bohemia is incredibly accurate, combining a dynamic world with meaningful player choices. It is the perfect game for medieval and RPG enthusiasts.
