Gameplay Highlights: The New REV System and Game Modes
The game is a 2.5D fighter, so you can expect plenty of exciting 1v1 battles either in singleplayer or multiplayer (local and online) against your friends or players worldwide. Naturally, the game includes some new features, with the core of it being the new REV System:
- REV Arts: Stronger versions of special moves that are triggered by pressing certain buttons simultaneously after a special input.
- REV Accel: Allows for quick combo transitions.
- REV Blow: A powerful finisher that can be activated when the REV meter is full and can be used both offensively and defensively.
In the settings, you can choose whether you want to use the classic “Arcade Style” controls or go with the new “Smart Style.” The Smart Style is much better suited for beginners as it allows you to perform combos and special moves with a single button press. In Arcade Style, you have to input complex, technical combos like in the old days to execute special moves.
Another highlight is the new single-player mode Episodes of South Town. Besides intense battles, this mode also features RPG elements. You gain XP, earn rewards, level up skills—basically everything you’d expect from a true RPG. It also dives into the backstories of both new and returning characters.

I just mentioned that Episodes of South Town explores character backstories—but which characters are actually in the game, you might ask? At launch, there are 17 different characters, with 5 more coming via the Season Pass by early 2026. It’s not possible to buy the game without the Season Pass, so you’ll definitely unlock those characters later.
