Anticipation is building for the release of The Outer Worlds 2, Obsidian’s much-awaited follow-up to its critically acclaimed sci-fi RPG. Targeted for release sometime this year, fans are eager to dive back into the universe of sarcastic corporations, branching storylines, and chaotic space exploration. While full details are being saved for the Outer Worlds 2 Direct happening on June 8th, one exciting update has already landed especially for PC gamers.

 

The Outer Worlds 2 Also on Battle.net and Supports Xbox Play Anywhere

The Outer Worlds 2 was already confirmed to launch on Xbox Series X|S, the Xbox app for Windows, Steam, and PlayStation 5, with day-one availability on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Now, there’s even more good news—Microsoft and Obsidian have officially added Battle.net to the list of supported platforms. The game is now available to wishlist on all these storefronts.

This expansion marks another bold move by Microsoft Gaming to bring its first-party titles to a wider audience. Earlier this year, Avowed, another major RPG from Obsidian, also made its way to Battle.net. What’s notable is that neither title comes from Activision Blizzard—the studio traditionally tied to Battle.net—but instead from Microsoft’s broader publishing ecosystem. It’s a clear signal that Microsoft intends to use the Battle.net platform more widely across its portfolio.

   

For those planning to play on Battle.net, there are a few things to keep in mind. A Battle.net account is required, even if you already have an Xbox account. To unlock full Xbox Play Anywhere functionality like cross-save and cross-progression, you’ll need to link both accounts. Once connected, your progress will carry over seamlessly between Battle.net, Xbox consoles, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Game Pass platforms.

Now, this isn’t the only big news coming from the game. To fuel the excitement even more, IGN has released an exclusive 11-minute gameplay video on their YouTube channel. It offers the first extended look at The Outer Worlds 2 in action, showcasing new locations, combat systems, and plenty of that trademark Obsidian wit and charm.
