Frostpunk 2 mod support with new official tool

Frostpunk 2, the upcoming post-apocalyptic city-builder will feature official mod support. The news comes from developer 11 bit studios who revealed the Frostkit modding tool in a recent announcement trailer.

Fans of the Frostpunk series have wanted mod support since the first strategy game launched in 2018. With the original game’s in-house engine’s limitations, mod support wasn’t possible, but Frostpunk 2 technical director Szymon Jablonski says “things are totally different now” with the switch to Unreal Engine.

In the Official Modding Tool Announcement Trailer above, it’s explained that players will now be able to create maps and scenarios, and modify models, cities, and other aspects of the game.

The Frostkit modding tool will not likely launch with Frostpunk 2 on September 20. Instead, a closed beta will test it before its release to the community. 11 bit studios do not promise a perfect tool, but they are “committed to eventually make it the best” they possibly can.
