Frostpunk 2: Delayed, Get Ready for the New Release Date And Save Today

With a communication on 27th June on Steam, the team at 11 bit studios announced that the release date of Frostpunk 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the strategic city builder, has been postponed to a later date. Certainly sad news for fans, but the team also shared the reasons behind this decision. Mainly attributable to feedback received from the recent Beta.

Frostpunk 2 – The news of the delay

The news comes directly from the team with a post on Steam, in which they announced the decision to move the initial launch date of Frostpunk 2 from 25th July to 20th September 2024, about 2 months after the originally planned date. News that certainly saddened many, who hoped to get their hands on the 11 bit studios title right in the middle of summer to counter the heat with a game set in the midst of subzero temperatures. However, the news wasn’t taken negatively, seeing in the team’s response a confidence in delivering the anticipated sequel in the best possible condition possible at launch.

Frostpunk 2 has certainly captured the interest of those who played the first installment released in 2018. An installment that also won numerous awards thanks to a well-executed gameplay, where we find ourselves in command of the last city on Earth. Having to manage the population, resources, and where our decisions will impact the fate of the city and its population, also countering the eternal ice storm that has struck the world. With a sequel set approximately 30 years after the events of the first game.

The reasons behind the delay of Frostpunk 2

To explain the reason for the delay, the two Game Directors Jakub Stokalski and Łukasz Juszczyk spoke out. They stated that with the Beta conducted about 2 months ago, the team received very positive feedback from the testers, with an overall average score of 8 out of 10 on Frostpunk 2. A very reassuring feedback score for the team, but precisely because of the more in-depth feedback and critiques, the team decided to postpone the launch by at least 2 months. Numerous aspects that the team wants to perfect before the launch. Aspects that the team categorizes into 3 main points:

• Additions to gameplay for a smoother experience: Such as the addition of a heat element, more flexible work management, a new resource to stabilize the economic side, direct actions to dynamically react to crises, etc.
• Improvements to UI and UX: Comprehensive improvements to the HUD, a new Construction menu, and better visibility of the Idea Tree and frostland.
• A new city option in “Zoom Stories”: Allowing for more detailed exploration and discovery of our citizens’ lives, thanks to numerous requests from the beta survey.

In short, a not excessive delay that seems to be dedicated to further improving the initial game experience with new additions. A choice that has been positively accepted by fans, also due to the fact that they were able to get their hands on the game during the beta. In short, we will have to wait until 20 September 2024, to finally see what the team has in store for us with the new features of Frostpunk 2.
