SONY AND TENCENT PURCHASE 30% OF FROMSOFTWARE
Elden Ring and Dark Souls developer FromSoftware has sold 30% of its shares to Sony Interactive Entertainment and Tencent Holdings.
Sony will now own 14% of FromSoftware and Tencent 16% as FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa Corporation looks to expand its global reach.
In a press release, Kadokawa said Tencent will help them to “develop and deploy mobile games,” whereas Sony has experience deploying IP in “games, videos, and various other media.”
The investment follows Sony’s recent acquisitions of Bungie and Haven Studios and Tencent’s purchase of 1C Entertainment.
FromSoftware reiterated that this is not an acquisition but a chance to invest in a “more powerful game IP” and expand in the global market.
