Friday the 13th: Resurrected Canceled After Cease and Desist Letter
Friday the 13th: The Game has been shut down and it will not return after Horror Inc files a cease and desist letter to the fans trying to revive the asymmetrical horror.
Has Friday the 13th Been Canceled?
Friday the 13th: The Game was delisted from all store fronts at the end of 2023, preventing anyone from buying the game, with official servers planned to be shut down by December 31, 2024.
There were hopes for a future when fans got together to create Friday the 13th: Resurrected, a fan-made mod that was attempting to revive the game. Unfortunately, that has now been canceled after Horror Inc, the owners of the film franchise and Friday the 13th IP, filed a cease and desist claiming copyright infringement on the game.
It’s yet another blow to the community, which has seen the game go from controversy to controversy since its release in 2017. And it’s a shame for anyone who loves survival horror as the game was an excellent competitor to Dead by Daylight, which now seems to have a monopoly on the asymmetrical horror genre.
Anyone hoping for another revival will unfortunately be left disappointed as the Friday the 13th: Resurrected devs shared the cease and desist letter received from Josh Geller and Horror Inc, and announced the project as “likely over” before saying they “plan to work on other projects.”
So, that’s it. Friday the 13th: The Game and its attempted fan revival through Friday the 13th: Resurrected are dead. Whether we get another video game starring Jason Voorhees, who knows but the franchise and fans of the films deserve better. As the Resurrected team says, “It’s a shame that someone wants to fight against a fan-made project with no profit made.”
