The team at Nihon Falcom brings two big announcements. Specifically, the release date for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and the announcement of Ys X: Proud Nordics, both set for 2025.

Just a few days after the news of the passing of Masayuki Kato, founder and key figure of Nihon Falcom, the team delivers two important updates. News that specifically concerns the Ys and Legend of Heroes franchises.

Two pillars of Nihon Falcom’s lineup, and two of the most beloved series. Which over the past few years, they’ve seen great success and interest from RPG fans. Delivering engaging stories, paired with exciting gameplay and plenty of challenges.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter: Release Window and Platforms Revealed

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is a remake of the first installment in the Legend of Heroes’ Liberl series (Eiyuu Densetsu). Originally released in 2004, with localization arriving only in 2011.

Announced during Nintendo’s Direct in late August 2023, Nihon Falcom finally reveals the title’s release window. Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter will launch in Fall 2025 on PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. This marks the series’ first-ever global launch, tackling its long-standing localization delays.

Ys X: Proud Nordics – Enhanced Edition of Ys X Nordics Announced

To everyone’s surprise, Nihon Falcom also unveiled a new version of Ys X Nordics, titled Proud Nordics. Set for release in 2025, it promises an improved and expanded version of Adol Christine’s latest story.

Featuring a new gameplay area on the island of Aland. Here, Adol and Karja will meet a mysterious Mana user. Embark on a fresh adventure amidst ruins and the enigmatic, dangerous immortal creatures Griegr. Additionally, it introduces “Mana Actions” to complement the existing “Cross Actions.”

Thoughts on Ys X: Proud Nordics and Trails in the Sky 1st Announcements

We don’t know much about this new version of Ys X yet. But it seems, at least initially, to be confirmed as a Japan-only release. Certainly an unusual move by Falcom, given Ys X is a fairly recent game. Many fans are concerned this might signal an Atlus-like trend of extended editions instead of DLCs.

As for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, many are undoubtedly thrilled about the global launch of this remake. Localization is handled by GungHo Online Entertainment, bringing the game with text translations in English, French, and German. Featuring dual Japanese and English voice-overs. Awaiting early 2025 for more updates!
