Redfall: Microsoft Abandons Vampire Shooter & Cancels DLC
Microsoft has announced Redfall will receive no further updates after the company closed Arkane Austin. Read more in this article.
Hades 2 Out Now on Steam
Redfall, Arkane Austin’s poorly received open-world vampire shooter, will receive no further updates, and its Hero DLC has been canceled after Microsoft closed the developer studio.
Arkane’s vampire shooter has failed to inspire since its release in May 2023. The game never recovered after a poor launch that saw frame rate drops, glitchy animations, broken AI, and an open world empty of character and content.
Now, a just a year after its release, Microsoft has announced the “Redfall’s previous update will be its last as we end all development on the game. The game and its servers will remain online for players to enjoy and we will provide make-good offers to players who purchased the Hero DLC.”
The news comes in an email from Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, that included the closures of Tango Gameworks and Alpha Dog Studios as part of a “reprioritization of titles and resources.” In other words, Microsoft, like everyone else in the industry, is looking to streamline and downsize in an attempt to save money and maximize profits.
Those still playing Redfall will be able to complete achievements for as long as Microsoft keeps the servers online, and those who pre-ordered the Hero DLC will receive compensation with content, although we don’t know what that content is yet.
