Phasmophobia is getting a massive overhaul in 2025, changing how every contract plays and adding new mechanics to the horror. Developer Kinetic Games promises tons of new content and reworked locations to please newcomers and veteran players.
Phasmophobia was a phenomenon when it was released into Early Access in 2020. Going into 2025, Kinetic Games has announced a massive overhaul to the game, which will rework locations and affect every contract.
As part of the rework, ghost hunters will get a new equipment item as they explore a reworked Bleasdale Farmhouse and discover what Krampus has left in Grafton Farmhouse. The Phasmophobia overhaul comes in 2025, with Kinetic Games keeping quiet on exact details, but the developer promises to reveal more soon.
Visual and Environmental Updates
The Bleasdale Farmhouse is set to receive a comprehensive visual overhaul, including a new layout and new areas. The dining room is now larger and filled with items for ghosts to throw around, whereas the living room is lit only by its fireplace, with double doors leading to the new garden.
Ghost hunters can also explore the trophy room and tea room, where they can capture plenty of terrifying moments. Kinetic Games also promises a horrifying surprise from Krampus. However, the developer isn’t ready to share it yet.
Enhancements to Gameplay Mechanics
The main new feature of the Phasmophobia overhaul is the introduction of the Sound Recorder, a new equipment item for every contract. With the Sound Recorder in hand, ghost hunters can capture “unique paranormal sounds” which they can replay from their Journal from the new “Media” tab that replaces “Photos.”
Gone is the quality system and in comes the “Unique” captures, rewarding ghost hunters with large amounts of money and XP at the end of a contract. Capturing duplicate paranormal activities will reward less, encouraging hunters to capture new video and sound recordings.
Phasmophobia Content in 2025
The Bleasdale Farmhouse and new capture system will encourage diverse evidence collection. Players will now be much more rewarded for capturing different types of paranormal activity.
2025 is a big year for the co-op horror, with Phasmophobia turning five years old in September. Kinetic Games still believes there is a lot of life left in the game and the overhaul should see the game spike in player numbers again. Don’t forget, the game is also still in Early Access, which means plenty more content to come.
Conclusion
Phasmophobia will offer players a refreshed and enriched ghost-hunting experience with a major overhaul in 2025. Are you excited to see what’s new in the co-op horror this year? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
