The Minecraft Dungeons scaling difficulty settings and item rarity system has been talked about in an interview with GameRant. The developers who were interviewed were Mans Olson, Nathan Rose, and Daniel Bjorkefors.

The game developers wanted to make sure that the game is enjoyable to everyone so they made sure that the game’s accessibility features and difficulty would be adjustable. They wanted the player to be able to decide how they wanted to play the game.

One of the challenges that the developers face is that they have a wide demographic and wanted everyone from the young up until the older players to enjoy the game.

There are three factors that would determine how hard the game was which are the difficulty level, the threat level, and the number of players. Each of these factors will be customizable for the player.

Also, like any other game, the difficulty levels for Dungeons have three which are Normal, Adventure, and Apocalypse. What differentiates this from other games though is the “threat slider” which gives players the option for an easier or a more challenging game.

If you are not able to decide on the difficulty adjustments, recommendations are available said the developers, “We recommend one that’s sort of appropriate for you as you play it, that suits your power level and the gear that you have equipped, but you are welcome to change that. You can go lower or higher if you want to,” they added, “for players who would want to, you can get a relatively easy experience and fast paced, and for players who want a real challenge, you can usually get to that as well by just bringing the difficulty up”.

As for the game’s rarity system, there will be three levels for that as well. There are the base items, the rare items, and the unique items. Base items are the most common which you can find just about anywhere, examples are standard bows or wooden swords. The rare items are less common and are more powerful. To compare, the unique items are those that are both very powerful and hard to come by. These are the kinds of items that can give players an edge in the game.

When players level-up, the loot drops of enemies will improve as well. The goal is to make the game fun instead of a difficult one for the sake of having a game that is difficult.

Minecraft Dungeons will be launching on May 26 available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
