Civilization 7 is the latest edition of the famous 4x strategy series by Firaxis Games. With a new chapter introducing several changes to the series, including a new 3-Era system with civilization progression. As well as leaders available for all civilizations and much more approachable gameplay.
It has received a mixed first impression, but many hope that upcoming updates will balance out some of the weaker aspects. The official launch is set for February 11, 2025, on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Civilization 7 Coming to VR This Spring
With a surprise announcement, Firaxis and 2K revealed the arrival of their new Civilization 7 on VR. The announcement was made on February 8, 2025, directly from the first Civ World Summit. The live event held at the Xperion in Hamburg, Germany.
During a live reveal, a Roman bust equipped with a Meta Quest VR headset was shown, followed by the official trailer that gives a glimpse into the VR version of Civ 7. Developed in collaboration with PlaySide Studios, it is expected to launch in Spring 2025.
Civilization 7 on VR – Key Features
With the official reveal, we now have access to the Wishlist for Civilization 7 on VR. From what has been shown, it seems like an exclusive release for MetaQuest 3 and 3S systems. The 2K team hasn’t provided many details about this version yet, but we know it will be a separate version of Civ 7.
Developed together with PlaySide Studios, the game brings the series to VR for the first time. Offering multiplayer with up to 4 online players. It’s definitely an interesting version for many fans, who appreciate the much more intuitive UI compared to the “2D” version.
In Conclusion
It’s certainly an interesting choice, with Civilization 7 available on multiple platforms, and now also on VR. However, the exclusivity for MetaQuest 3 systems, the latest generation, isn’t as well received.
Especially the decision not to release the title for Playstation with PSVR. It remains to be seen how DLCs will be handled in the future, something we will learn more about with the official launch in Spring 2025.
