The developers of Farthest Frontier have addressed growing community questions about the anticipated release of version 1.0. In their latest update, they announced that the game’s official launch has been postponed to Spring 2025. This decision was not made lightly, but the team explained that the extra time is essential to ensure a polished and optimized experience that meets both their standards and players’ expectations.

Farthest Frontier Release Date Delayed

The delay is attributed to three key factors. First, performance optimization remains a priority. The developers have observed players building massive towns with populations exceeding 3,000, which test the limits of current hardware. While significant progress has been made, further work is needed to ensure the game runs smoothly for everyone, regardless of town size.

Second, the team admitted to a tendency to expand their plans by adding new, unannounced features which has lengthened development timelines. These additions aim to enhance the gameplay experience but require additional time to implement and refine.

Finally, from a business perspective, releasing the game during the crowded holiday season or the AAA-packed February window is not ideal. By targeting a Spring 2025 release, the team hopes to avoid competition and give Farthest Frontier the visibility it deserves.

Despite the delay, the developers reassured players that regular updates will continue. They remain committed to making Farthest Frontier a standout in the town-builder genre and have released a new trailer to officially announce the revised timeline.



Farthest Frontier Remaining Early Access Versions

Currently, the game’s released version is v0.9.5. It was initially to only have v.0.9.6 before the full version but part of the delay announcement is that there will also be a v.0.9.7 before the full release.

The Farthest Frontier v0.9.6 update is entering public playtesting within the next 2 weeks and will introduce expanded custom game options for greater gameplay flexibility. Achievements and villager idle behaviors have been postponed to v0.9.7 to allow for more focus on polishing this update, which also adds new audio features, enhanced voiceovers, and immersive sound effects.

This update will also feature the Forager Garden which is a Tier 2 upgrade allowing players to cultivate foraged plants, and fixes for a OneDrive save issue with a safer save directory migration. Quality-of-life improvements like visible food spoilage times and better resource prioritization are also included in the v.0.9.6 update.

V0.9.7 will follow early next year and will focus on achievements, idle behaviors, and expanded modding support as the game nears its Spring 2025 launch. More details about this version will be announced nearing its release.
