D&D Expands Again! Hasbro Confirms New Game is in the Works

Hasbro has confirmed a new Dungeons & Dragons game, with the company eager to ride the success of Baldur’s Gate 3. The news will likely excite fans as other D&D video games are also in the works.

A new Dungeons & Dragons game has been revealed to be in development by Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks. Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Cocks confirmed the new D&D game but stopped short of revealing any details.

It is not surprising another D&D game is in the works after Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to grow in popularity in 2024, despite releasing in 2023. In a post on X, Larian Studios’ Publishing Director Michael Douse announced the game had climbed in daily peak online users by 3% in 2024, and the Vatican has bought two copies of the RPG. Hasbro is eager to build on the recent success of the D&D IP in the video game world.

How This Fits Into the Expanding D&D Universe

We know nothing about the new D&D game, but we do have information on other upcoming Dungeons & Dragons video games. Disney Dreamlight Valley developer Gameloft Montreal is working on a D&D survival life sim, Starbreeze, the developer of Payday 3, is working on a co-op game planned for 2026, and Resolution Games, the Demeo dev, is working on an upcoming VR title set in the D&D universe.

After the incredible success of 2023’s Game of the Year Baldur’s Gate 3, developer Larian Studios revealed they were stepping back from the IP to work on something new. With no developer as of yet revealed, Cocks could be referring to Baldur’s Gate 4, which Larian did begin work on before dropping the project. Only time will tell what the next D&D game will be, but there is tons of content coming for fans in the next couple of years.
