Cyberpunk 2077 (CP77) is the famous futuristic open world game by CD Projekt Red. It was first revealed at E3 2018 with its official trailer. An ambitious project that brings the Pen & Paper world created by Mike Pondsmith to life as an FPS RPG.
It officially launched on 10 December 2020 after several delays. A release that caused a divide in the community, especially on consoles. But CDPR worked hard to deliver the promised experience with several updates and the Phantom Liberty DLC. The game is now part of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 lineup. Nintendo Switch 2 – Nvidia-Powered Features
With the official reveal of Switch 2 and its upcoming games, Cyberpunk 2077 joins the third-party lineup. CD Projekt Red’s FPS RPG adventure will debut with an official port on Nintendo’s new console. Which, as we know, runs on Nvidia tech.
This means a big generational jump from the first Switch. The architecture supports Nvidia’s latest features, especially with the presence of Tensor Cores and other tools that enable:
- Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS): For high-quality upscaling at lower resolutions. Boosting performance while minimizing visual loss. Also using DSR (Dynamic Resolution Scaling).
- Ray Tracing: Still to be confirmed, but potentially available for first-party and third-party developers for enhanced visuals. Expect more realistic shadows and reflections.
- Face Tracking and Video: Options to enhance GameChat with face tracking and background removal while streaming.
- G-Sync: Native support in both handheld and docked modes (on compatible screens) for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), enabling smooth high-refresh experiences (up to 120Hz).
Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo Switch 2 – Performance and Visuals
Digital Foundry (DF) recently shared some updates about CP77 on Switch 2, with insights from CDPR regarding visual and gameplay performance. Richard confirmed the presence of two modes: Quality and Performance, and the difference between Docked and Handheld. Here’s what they offer:
- Docked: Quality at 30fps and Performance at 40fps on VRR screens. Native 1080p resolution with Dynamic Resolution Scaling to keep it stable.
- Handheld: Quality mode at 30fps and 1080p with DLSS and DSR. Performance mode targets 720p at 40fps, also using DLSS and DSR.
Richard noted how the upscaling allows for a 2X resolution boost. In docked mode it scales from 540p to 1080p, and in handheld from 360p to 720p. The DLSS upscaling doesn’t appear to use the latest DLSS 4.0 Transformer Model available on PC, but as he said, this is a preview version. CDPR is still working to optimize the experience further on Switch 2.
