It’s more bad news for console players as Cities: Skylines 2 has been delayed for a third time just months before it’s due for release.

Cities: Skylines 2, the city-builder sequel to the critically acclaimed Cities: Skylines, was released in October 2023 on PC, but a console release was delayed until Spring this year as developer Colossal Order and publisher Paradox Interactive felt the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 versions needed more time to be ready.

Unfortunately, that first delay turned into another, with the sim set for October 2024, a full year after it was initially set for launch. Now, Paradox has revealed that PS5 and Xbox Series X|S users will have to wait longer. In a forum post, Paradox said, “While we are making slow but steady progress, there are still unresolved issues impacting the game in ways that harm the player experience we want to deliver.”

The delay is indefinite as Paradox and Colossal look to address “further issues” if they arise from the subsequent evaluation set for August.

It’s a blow to console players hoping to get their hands on the game, but it may be a positive move as the Beach Properties DLC, released in March, caused serious player blowback, with the Cities: Skylines dropping to “Mostly Negative” on Steam. Colossal later admitted they “rushed out a DLC that should not have been published in its current form” and refunded everyone who bought it separately from the game, later making it free. A delay on console, may be a good move.
