Hollow Knight: Silksong Reveal – Listed & Rated on Microsoft Store
7 months ago | Deals Just in these last days there seems to be movements regarding Silksong, the Standalone chapter of Hollow Knight, a new adventure awaited by many fans of Team Cherry’s indie game. Considered by many as one of the most important indies of the last decade, it has become an icon for the Metroidvania genre, with many […]
Hollow Knight: Silksong sounds like an absolute adventure! Taking on the role of Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, as she embarks on a perilous journey through a kingdom of silk and song is sure to be an unforgettable experience. With stunning new landscapes to explore, deadly acrobatic combat, and a plethora of mysteries to uncover, I can’t wait to dive into this epic sequel and face over 150 new foes!
Hollow Knight is a fantastic game, an action platformer supported by crowd-funding, so it got support from gamers before it was even developed, and it shows. This sequel is intended to match the quality and scale of the original.
In the sequel you play as Hornet, a slender, faster protagonist that mixes different skills and attacks. This character already appeared in the original and still has the same silk-based attacks mixed in with diagonal dives and plenty of jumping. Hornet is more nimble. When bashing enemies you get silk, which can be used to heal.
You play in a whole new kingdom, with forests, grottos, cities and moors, facing over 150 foes along the way.
Get ready for an epic adventure in a magical kingdom! Explore enchanting forests, cities and moors as you ascend towards the dazzling citadel at the top of the world. Engage in graceful yet lethal combat with a whole new range of deadly moves. Use your cunning to craft powerful tools and confound your enemies. Solve mysterious quests, hunt rare beasts and search for lost treasures to restore the kingdom’s hope. Face over 150 (!) all-new foes (!!!), from beasts and hunters to monsters and knights. Conquer the kingdom and then take on the unique and challenging Silk Soul mode. With a beautiful orchestral score by Christopher Larkin, this will be an unforgettable journey.
In this sequel to Hollow Knight we still have the familiar 2d metroivania genre that was so beloved but with a whole new setting and story. Apart from the new character and kingdom there will be new combat moves that seem to be more fluid, different enemies and a ton of mysteries to solve and secrets to explore. I have yet to finish the first game but this one is looking pretty good too.
What to say about Hollow Knight Silksong?
I am compelled to revisit my experience of the first game. If you haven’t played the first Hollow Knight, you’ve missed out on something in your gaming life, and it’s available on Xbox, Playstation (old and new generation), Switch, PC… so no excuses!
Indeed, it is without doubt the new absolute reference of the Metroidvania genre (in 2D at least). Gargantuan content. Endless exploration, lots of bosses, in various forms, each more demanding than the last. Alternative endings. Tons of secret passages, surprises, unexpected events. Various biomes. No bugs. A very dynamic gameplay, many ways to play depending on your feeling, the enemies… Free DLC. Well thought out mobility elements, right down to the rather fair save system, balanced difficulty. Even if finishing the game at over 110% is not easy, even if you are a seasoned Souls player, believe me.
Frankly, this game has it all. With Silksong, you will play as Hornet. It’s a prequel. We have a trailer from 4 years ago, we thought it would be released rather quickly, it’s not. In June 2022, Microsoft announced a release within 12 months, which has not been denied. So we hope that June 2023 will be the right one, because the wait is endless. The combat abilities are different, the moves are different, the soul system is different. Team Cherry has promised more content, more enemies, more interesting bosses, in short the best metroidvania of all time, but still improved, refined. That you will recommend to everyone you know, even in 10 years.
It’s my favourite game, tied with another, so I’m being quite subjective, but you have to admit that you have a nugget in your hands and that Silksong is unlikely to disappoint… 6 stars out of 5!!!
