Avowed: Microsoft Reveals System Requirements & Reasons for Delay
With the launch of Avowed postponed to 2025, the Microsoft team recently revealed the new game’s System Requirements. Finally confirming the real reasons behind the delay.
Avowed is an action RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Microsoft. The game is set to release on 18 February 2025 for Xbox Series X/S and PC. Taking us into the fantasy world of Eora, previously explored in the Pillars of Eternity series, it’s the first time players will experience it in first-person perspective.
We’ll gain access to the Living Lands island, with landscapes ranging from rocky terrains to dense forests. All brought to life with Unreal Engine 5, delivering a vast, visually stunning world that’s exciting to explore. Featuring various NPCs, numerous enemies, and companions to recruit.
Avowed: System Requirements for Obsidian’s New Action RPG Revealed
With the recent announcement of pre-orders for Avowed going live, Obsidian has finally revealed the System Requirements. Requirements that look promising in terms of the game’s optimization. Here they are:
Minimum:
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 / Intel i5-8400
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics Card: AMD RX 5700 / Nvidia GTX 1070 / Intel Arc A580
- Disk Space: 75 GB available space
Recommended:
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X / Intel i7-10700K
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics Card: AMD RX 6800 XT / Nvidia RTX 3080
- Disk Space: 75 GB available space
Reasonable requirements. However, the team hasn’t specified target FPS or resolution. Especially considering the game utilizes Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen, alongside Ray Traced Reflections on higher settings. Therefore, DLSS3 or other Upscaling technologies are essential. Yet, Obsidian confirmed that Series X targets only 30fps, with no 60fps Performance Mode.
Avowed: Microsoft CEO Explains the Game’s Delay
The Xbox CEO, Phil Spencer, spoke back in August 2024 about the reasons behind the delay of Avowed. The initial release date, leaked by Obsidian’s team, was scheduled for 12 November 2024. However, Microsoft decided to postpone the release to 18 February 2025. The decision wasn’t due to development issues but rather to give the game a better chance.
The decision stemmed from heavy competition during that period, with partner titles like the highly anticipated Stalker 2 releasing on 20 November, 2024. Alongside Microsoft’s First Party games, including Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Even early 2025 is packed with key launches like Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and Monster Hunter Wilds, both releasing in February 2025.
