Microsoft has now added native support for RAR and 7-Zip to the Windows 11 operating system.

In a recent dev update, Microsoft announced that Windows 11 would get native support for RAR and 7-Zip, something users have been demanding for decades.
In a blog post, Panos Panay, Chief Product Officer, said, “We have added native support for additional archive formats, including tar, 7-Zip, RAR, gz, and many others using the libarchive open-source project.”
The native support will mean apps like WinRAR won’t be needed, and it is a massive win for Windows 11 as Microsoft continues to roll out features and quality-of-life improvements for the operating system.
The new native support features and other improvements are now available for Windows 11 Insiders and will be rolled out to everyone else later this year.
