Ubisoft Offline Mode for The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest

While we have had server shutdowns the past couple of years, 2024 probably has the most to date with both Ubisoft and EA leading the pack. Granted that reserving some resources to video games that have hardly anyone playing isn’t substantial, it is still an ethical trading issue. And an issue that gamers are definitely not holding back frustrations from.

This was recently seen after Ubisoft shut down the server for The Crew. It was delisted from digital stores late last year then had the servers shut down a few months after. Being that it’s an online-only game, this has made it virtually unplayable, even if you have the disc. Basically taken out of existence.

While back then a “Require Internet” label on the physical copy wasn’t a deal breaker, now we know to steer clear of those games. Instead of buying a copy of the game, this now says you’re buying a subscription to a game which when expires, you do not have anything apart from memories.



Some games that had their servers shutdown, eventually received an offline patch. But in the case of The Crew, it wasn’t. However, Ubisoft has heard the concerns of the gaming community so it is somehow making it right. No, there is still no offline patch for The Crew.

Instead, they confirmed an offline mode for its sequels. The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest will receive offline functionality to ensure long term access. These are future plans still and currently have no release date. But considering that it is on paper, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Hopefully, this isn’t the end of offline patches for online-only games. It is the best compromise for both consumer and publishers.
