Tokyo Xtreme Racer Launching in Steam Early Access This Month

Tokyo Xtreme Racer is coming this month after 18 years in the dark. The upcoming racing game will launch in Steam Early Access on January 23 before a full release later this year.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer is coming to Steam Early Access on January 23 after an almost two decades hiatus for the series. Developer Genki has revealed the racing sim will be in Early Access for roughly four months before a full release.

By releasing it into Early Access, Genki hopes to gather feedback from players to build a game for veterans and newcomers. It will be the franchise’s first major entry since Import Tuner Challenge was released on the Xbox 360 in 2006.

What to Expect in Early Access

In Early Access, Tokyo Xtreme Racer will include 50 officially licensed playable cars and over 180km of roads to explore. Players will be speeding past rivals and cutting through traffic on the faithfully recreated Tokyo Shuto Expressway.

While in EA, players can play up to about the halfway point of the game and challenge over 200 rivals. Genki is yet to reveal a price but states the price may increase as more content is added. Those who pick it up early will get the advantage of paying less and can play it upon full release at no extra charge.

The Legacy of Tokyo Xtreme Racer

For those not old enough to remember, Tokyo Extreme Racer it garnered a cult following for its fast-paced action and unique approach to street racing.

After nearly two decades, Tokyo Xtreme Racer is the same game from the 90s with a fresh lick of paint. Although it’s coming to PC this month, we still don’t know if or when it will launch on consoles. Whatever its future holds, excited fans can try it early from January 23.
