The Stone of Madness is a new game by The Game kitchen, the developer of Metroidvania Souls-like Blasphemous. It’s due to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2025.
The Game Kitchen describes The Stone of Madness as a “real-time tactical stealth game”. Set in an 18th-century Spanish Monastery come madhouse and prison, it focuses on five prisoners trying to escape while forced to deal with their own phobias and inner demons.
Presented in a hand-painted art style, The Stone of Madness takes inspiration from 18th-century artist Francisco De Goya, a renowned Spanish romantic painter. The art style adds to the game’s dark setting and helps set the atmosphere as progress through the story.
There are two campaigns for players to choose from, and each will provide different challenges. The game features continuous time, meaning every decision made will have a consequence. Players must weigh up the choices they decide upon in the day for when the night descends and the horrors come out.
To escape their confines, though, each character will have to manage their sanity. As the mental health of each character fails, traumatic events will spawn, setting off traits like paranoia, dementia, and even violent tendencies. Ultimately, allowing a character’s mental health to drop will affect how each is played.
It’s not all negative, though. Players can cast spells, upgrade skills, and fight back against enemies. If you’ve played Blasphemous and Darkest Dungeon, you may get an idea of what to expect when The Stone of Madness comes next year.

The Stone of Madness is a new game from Spanish devs of Blasphemous that automatically reminds of La Abadía del Crimen, one of the most timeless spanish games ever, and very old as well. Your characters are locked in an asylum and must solve a mystery, exploration is different during night and day and you can’t miss your duties and checks. A very challenging kind of stealth gameplay but will for sure be a success.
