After news that shocked many, Tango Gameworks announces the return of the team as Tango Gameworks Inc.

Tango Gameworks has undoubtedly been through a challenging period over the past few years. A Tokyo-based development team founded in 2010 by none other than Shinji Mikami. Later acquired by ZeniMax Media, and eventually ending up under Microsoft’s umbrella with the famous 2021 acquisition.

A team who brought The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo under ZeniMax, as well as the popular and well-received Hi-Fi Rush under Microsoft. A title that sold over 3 million copies within months of its launch. Following Microsoft’s shocking announcement to shut down the studio in June 2024, as Krafton stepped in to save the team.

Tango Gameworks: The return of the team behind Hi-Fi Rush and The Evil Within

Over six months after the studio closure announcement, Tango Gameworks finally breaks the silence. Officially announcing on the team’s Twitter (X) page the return under the new name of Tango Gameworks Inc., as part of South Korean game publisher Krafton.

Krafton, a publisher behind IPs like PUBG: Battlegrounds, Subnautica, and Natural Selection, officially acquired Tango Gameworks on 1st August 2024, with roughly half of the original staff. Fortunately, the other half had already found jobs elsewhere after Microsoft originally shut down the studio.

Tango Gameworks Inc: The Team’s IPs and Future Projects

With Krafton’s acquisition of the team, the publisher has also acquired rights to Hi-Fi Rush. Meanwhile, the rights to The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo IPs still remain with Microsoft. Who has promised to collaborate with Krafton, and thus Tango , on potential new entries in the series.

In short, an odyssey for Tango Gameworks that has thankfully ended on a somewhat positive note. The start of 2025 marks the team’s return under new leadership, with many hoping for Hi-Fi Rush 2, though it will take time before the team is able to deliver a new game.
