Silent Hill f: The Initial News of the Ban in Australia

After the latest showcase dedicated to Silent Hill f with the Transmission, just a few days ago, news emerged. The news, shared on March 22, 2025 by various outlets, including Gamesradar, confirmed that the game had received an RC rating from the Australian Classification Board (ACB). That is, “Refused Classification,” resulting in a ban.

But it seems this was caused by an automatic process according to the updated articles. Although the risk of a ban on the game may still remain active, given the level of violence, the game received a CERO Z rating in Japan, equivalent to the ESRB’s 18+.

Video games and Australia: What’s the cause of some games being banned?

Australian players are no strangers to this situation. In December 2024, Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact also received a ban. The main cause was “implied sexual violence,” involving an adult exposing themselves to two minors. Most likely, the gag scene involving Hisoka during Greed Island.

But beyond this, it seems that it’s not just excessive violence and adult content that causes bans. The presence and use of substances within games has also led to bans over the years. Some examples include Disco Elysium, Hotline Miami, and We Happy Few, which later passed reclassification. Permanent bans include games like Sludge Life, Hotline Miami 2, the Manhunt series, and many others.

In Conclusion

While for now, Silent Hill f seems safe from a ban, it’s not impossible that the game could still face a potential ban in Australia. Given the strong elements of gore and violence in the new chapter, as well as other problematic elements for the ACB.

It would be difficult to censor the game to pass the rating if the guilty content is essential to the story and multiple in nature. What do you think of the situation? Let us know in the comments!
