Rocksteady’s New Batman Game: Rumors

Rocksteady could be working on a new Batman game. That’s according to leaker Shpeshal Nick, who responded to a post on X by The Game Awards asking for people to name their dream developer to make the next Batman video game. Shpeshal Nick responded to the tweet saying, “Not sure which studio people’s dream is, but I heard Rocksteady are back making it.”

Developer Rocksteady has just released Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which launched earlier this year on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League features characters from multiple DC universes, including Harley Quinn, long-time partner in crime to The Joker, an enemy of Batman. If Rocksteady is making a new Batman game, fewer developers are more experienced or familiar with the IP.

There is no official confirmation from Rocksteady or parent company Warner Bros. Games of a new Batman game, but that hasn’t stopped fans from getting excited at the prospect. If the rumors prove to be true, its unlikely we’ll see the new Batman game for a couple of years at least

Rocksteady’s most recent game is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a live-service which released on January 30, 2024. The studio’s most recent Batman series was the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Trilogy, which began in 2009 with Batman: Arkham Asylum, continued in 2011 with Batman: Arkham City, and ended in 2015 with Batman: Arkham Knight. The Batman Arkham trilogy is a single-player stealth action series, which many believe to be among the best superhero games.
