What Type of Game Is Project Loki

Project Loki is the codename for a game currently in development by indie game studio Theorycraft Games, a team who consist of veteran developers who have worked on massively popular games such as League of Legends, Valorant, Overwatch, and the Halo series. Most notably, the team is led by Joe Tung, former vice president of Riot Games and executive producer on Destiny and Halo.

In development since as early as 2021, Projeckt Loki is described as “League meets Apex meets Smash” as it blends MOBA, battle royale, and shooter genres to create a a unique squad-based hero battleground set as a top-down shooter where characters have abilities and various other tools to take down opponents.

That may sound like a complex mix of genres, well, it doesn’t to Theorycraft who are aiming to create “unapologetically deep games that give everyone the chance to connect, to compete, and to be infinitely delighted by stories they are at the center of.” The team believes Project Loki will be a game player will be willing to spend 10,000 hours in.

There’s no doubt Project Loki is an ambitious game and it would be easy to be skeptical, but the good news is that this weekend you can try it out for yourself in a playtest.

The Project Loki playtest runs from 7 PM CET on January 25 to January 27 at 11 PM CET. That gives you an exclusive chance to be one of the first to play it. This weekend’s playtest will focus on item and ability systems and feature an increased lobby size of 20% for more intense matches.

There is no release date for Project Loki but this latest test is a sign the game’s development is ramping up and we can expect plenty more news about the game throughout 2024.
