Path of Exile 2 has been a massive success since it launched into Early Access, and the game’s director has revealed the action RPG may not get a full release until 2026.

Grinding Gear Games released Path of Exile 2 last December, with the initial hope that it would leave Early Access within six months. However, game director Jonathan Rogers informed PC Gamer that it “may take a little bit of extra time,” and a full release might not occur until after 2025.
Despite concerns the action RPG will remain in Early Access going into next year, Rogers revealed in the interview that he “really” wants to get the game out this year and that 2025 is still the target.
Why Path of Exile 2 May Stay in Early Access
POE’s launch into Early Access has stirred up issues for the team, resulting in Grinding Gear Games throwing every developer they had at it to meet timelines, which has put a lot of stress onto the team – something Rogers says he wants to avoid in future updates.
Upon its release, the game featured six classes, with six more planned throughout Early Access. With the upcoming patch on April 4, the studio found it a “pain in the ass” to add the Huntress class with the update, which has resulted in Rogers scaling back plans. And this is not to mention the crashes and endgame problems that Rogers says have put the game on “fire.”
When Can We Expect a Full Launch?
Rogers says Path of Exile 2 is “still broadly on track,” but the developers and fans would likely agree that it’s best to get the game fixed and stable before a full release.
Before 1.0, the game is still expected to release six more classes, including the Huntress, which is part of the upcoming Dawn of the Hunt update on April 4. Unfortunately, like all games in Early Access, the game will be ready when it’s ready, and although it’s hoped to get a full release in 2025, fans should brace for a possible 2026 release.
What This Means for Fans
The full release of Path of Exile 2 is not yet confirmed, and like any game in Early Access, its development timeline may fluctuate. While some fans may be disappointed by a later-than-expected launch, others will appreciate that Grinding Gear Games is acknowledging the game’s issues and is committed to resolving them.
