Massively popular creature collector Palworld has smashed the Counter-Strike concurrent player record to become the second most-played game ever on Steam with an incredible 1,864,421 concurrent players on January 23. It now only sits behind PUBG on the Steam charts.
The new concurrent record comes after developer Pocketpair announced on X that Palworld had sold more than 6 million copies its first four days after it released on January 19 on Xbox and PC.
Palworld has seen one of the biggest game launches ever, but its success has been surrounded with controversy as many claim the adventure game is simply a Pokémon rip-off, with the developers even claiming of receiving death threats.

At the moment, though, there seems to be no stopping Palworld with it being hailed as a Game of the Year contender for 2024 already, and it has a “Very Positive” review score on Steam from 62,000 reviews. Steam gaming trends ebb and flow weekly with “hot new releases,” but the Palworld Steam statistics show that the game is still growing exceptionally well.
Palword has had a definite impact, and despite any criticism, it’s among the popular Steam games and now only sits behind PUBG as the most played ever on Valve’s platform. Whether it can reach PUBG’s all-time peak of 3,257,248 concurrent players is debatable. But it’s had a heck of a start!
