Orcs Must Die: Deathtrap 2025 Announcement Trailer Reveal

Great news arrives from the Robot Entertainment team, announcing the next chapter of the Orcs Must Die series. The new installment, titled Deathtrap, brings a series of new additions not only visually but especially in gameplay, with a release planned for 2025.

The news arrives on 18th July 2024, with the official announcement of the next chapter in the Orcs Must Die series, the colorful tower defense game where we face hordes of Orcs. The trailer prominently features a new cast of characters, with the possibility of playing together with up to 4 players in co-op in a match. With the release planned for 2025. Interesting news, though there is general disappointment about the character selection, with iconic faces like Maximilian and Gabriella totally missing from this trailer.

The New Features of Orcs Must Die: Deathtrap

The new features of Orcs Must Die: Deathtrap (2025) are certainly numerous despite the short trailer, and part of the new info comes from the brief history of the franchise released by Robot Entertainment. Here’s what we have:

• 4-Player Co-op: We can finally play in co-op with up to 3 friends or with other players online. The solo experience will still be available.
• New Characters: New characters with many abilities to try, inspired by OMDU. However, neither Max nor Gab will be playable at launch.
• New Progression System: An expanded Skill Tree for the character, and one dedicated to weapons and abilities for new experimentation.
• Roguelite Elements and Improved Combat: Variable elements of both debuffs and buffs, challenges, and upgrades that will change the experience. With improved combat, especially melee combat.
• Graphics and Game Physics: Now on Unreal Engine 5, we will certainly see the features of Epic Games’ engine. Especially physics, with new traps and more intuitive mechanics.

Orcs Must Die – The History of the Series

The history of the series begins with the first chapter presented at the Penny Arcade Expo 2011 and then released in October of the same year. Against all conventions of the Tower Defense genre, Orcs Must Die offers a third-person perspective game with a varied and very solid gameplay experience, which was immediately appreciated by many. With the addition of 2-player co-op in Orcs Must Die 2 in 2012.

In 2017, the team introduced Orcs Must Die! Unchained, a primarily PvP game that, although it offered a good cast of characters, disappointed in terms of gameplay. Finally, Orcs Must Die 3, released in 2021, returns to its roots by offering some new features thanks to community feedback.
