Among the big surprises at The Game Awards 2024, Capcom had its say with the unexpected announcement of the Okami Sequel!

Ōkami is a game developed by Clover Studio for Capcom in 2006 released on PS2 and later on other platforms. The game puts us in the shoes of the goddess Amaterasu in her white wolf form, offering truly original gameplay through the use of the Celestial Brush to perform various actions.

Gameplay that, even 18 years later, is still highly appreciated, despite the original team closing in 2007. But right at The Game Awards 2024, we not only got confirmation of a new Sequel but also the return of the studio as Clover with Hideki Kamiya returning as Game Director.

Capcom Announces Okami Sequel at The Game Awards 2024

Among the big news and announcements at The Game Awards 2024, Capcom also joins the stage. And among the most unexpected surprises, they announce the Okami Sequel, a sequel to the iconic Okami. One of Capcom’s most beloved IPs, which, over 18 years after the release of the first, will finally see a second chapter.

Capcom showed us a short teaser, where we see a world created in a Sumi-e style. Culminating with the appearance of the White Wolf Amaterasu from Okami. As she runs towards the horizon, she creates a colorful field of flowers in her wake—a result of the Celestial Art. The name is revealed as Okami Sequel.

Okami Sequel: What does the new chapter hold for us?

Capcom remains very secretive about the game, as the name “Okami Sequel” seems more like a placeholder than the final name. From what we know, the game is still in development, but we do know who’s working on it. Hideki Kamiya returns as Game Director of the development team Clovers Inc., founded in 2023. With the participation of Machine Head Works Inc. and M-TWO Inc., which include members of the original Okami team.

Fantastic news for Ōkami fans, with a sequel over 18 years after the original. The last Okami-themed game was the 2010 spiritual successor Okamiden, starring Chibiterasu, a Nintendo DS exclusive. Now we just have to wait for more news on the official Okami Sequel site.
